Workshop 02 / Paper
A garden from scraps.
Collage is an invitation to try things before you commit. Gather a few colours, cut loose botanical shapes, and move them around until your little paper garden feels right.
Collect a little palette
Choose four or five paper colours. Include a dark colour for stems and a light one for breathing room. Texture and printed words can become part of the work.
Cut without perfecting
Cut a few long stems, rounded leaves and uneven petals. Fold a scrap to make two related shapes at once. Keep the offcuts; an accidental shape can be a lovely starting point.
Arrange your garden
Place the stems first, then add leaves and flowers. Try an off-centre arrangement. Take a quick photo if you want to compare two layouts before choosing.
Glue in layers
Lift one piece at a time and add a thin layer of glue. Begin with the shapes at the back. Press gently and let your collage lie flat while it dries.
